Natural Acne Treatments from Your Refrigerator
Tuesday, February 20th, 2007You don’t have to be a teenager to have annoying acne blemishes show up. And, of course, they usually appear at just the wrong time, so you want to get rid of them fast. If you need to clear up acne quickly, but don’t want to use harsh chemicals, try one of these natural acne treatments.
Garlic
Garlic clears up acne by killing harmful bacterial on your skin and drying up excess oils. As simple as it may seem, this natural treatment has been shown to work even on tough adult acne. Just cut open a clove of fresh garlic and rub it gently on your skin to cover the acne with juice.
Green tea and carrots
Green tea may be a little oversold as a cure-all, but there really are health benefits behind the hype. In addition to being all-around good for you, green tea has anti-bacterial properties and the antioxidants it contains have a proven ability to treat and prevent acne. You could use a tissue or clean make-up sponge to apply tea directly to your skin, but there’s an easier way. Boil a carrot (carrots are also rich in antioxidants) until it’s soft enough to mash. Then make a cup of green tea and mix enough tea into the mashed carrot to form a paste. Apply the paste to your acne, give it 15 minutes or so to work, then wash it off.
Oranges and eggs
The astringent properties of oranges make them an effective natural treatment for acne. To get the most benefit, grind up some orange peels (use a cheese grater or food processor) and mix them with water to create a paste. Apply this paste to your blemishes and leave it on for twenty or thirty minutes. Another acne remedy you can make from oranges is a mix of orange juice (squeezed fresh from an orange, not poured from a bottle) and egg white. Apply this to your face and let it sit for about 15 minutes to help clear your pores.
Baking soda
You may have heard of this acne remedy before, but it’s not just an old wives’ tale. Ordinary baking soda really can clear up small blemishes quickly. Before you try this cure, though, keep in mind that some people with sensitive skin find baking soda irritating, so use caution. Make a small amount of paste out of baking soda and water and dab the paste directly onto your acne spots. Leave it on for fifteen to twenty minutes, then gently wash it off. Some find this treatment tingles or stings a bit, but if causes a burning sensation, wash it off immediately because in rare cases it can damage sensitive skin types.
If you have just a small blemish to get rid of, a natural cure could clear up the problem with just one treatment. To get rid of more serious acne, it may take a few treatments, but you should see improvements within days.
