More About Acne Products

Acne products that contain Benzoyl peroxide can also be very effective. This treats mild cases of non-inflammatory acne. This is also safe for children and adults and can be combined with topical or oral treatments. Benzoyl peroxide works as an antiseptic and oxidizing agent, reducing the number of clogged pores. Wait for 2-3 weeks before any improvement can be seen. Acne products containing benzoyl peroxide are available as gels, cream, lotions, and cleansers with concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 10%. Just like with salicylic acid, acne products containing benzoyl peroxide may have side effects. Some of the common side effects of acne products with benzoyl peroxide are dryness, irritation, dermatitis, allergy, and bleaching of clothing. If dryness, irritation, or dermatitis occurs, lower the concentration as it may be the cause of these side effects. If dermatitis (red, itchy skin) occurs, discontinue use and treat with a mild topical steroid.

For people who are suffering from moderate to severe acne, a combination of topical remedies and oral antibiotics may also serve as acne products. The most common oral medications are tetracycline, minocycline, doxycycline, and erythromycin. These acne products control breakouts by curbing the body’s production of P. acnes (the bacteria that causes acne) and decreasing inflammation. It takes several weeks to months to see changes on the skin. Also, when the acne subsides, this does not mean that the acne is cured so don’t quit using the antibiotics because if you do, the breakouts may just come back. Similarly, doubling the use of the acne products won’t make the healing twice as fast. In fact, using these acne products more often than prescribed may induce greater follicular irritation which may slow the healing. These acne products are prescribed by dermatologists so if you have moderate to severe acne, it will be wise to consult professionals so that they can guide you through the course of treatment. Some of the common side effects of these acne products are higher risk of sunburn, upset stomach, dizziness, hives, and skin discoloration. As always if these things happen, consult your doctor.

The journey towards being beautiful and staying beautiful can be tough. Some acne products may not work for you while other will. It will always be wise to ask someone for directions to lead you to the right way to a more beautiful you. So if you’re doubtful to the path you’re treading, don’t hesitate to consult. Besides you don’t want to spend money to only get ugly in the end, right? So go and be beautiful.
