The scary Acne and its cure

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Acne no doubt is a scary phenomenon but it can be tackled once and for all. Acne is due to hormonal changes, bad diet and unhealthy skin care habits. Sometimes, dandruff in the hair can also cause acne. Include green leafy vegetables and fruits in your diet. Drink a lot of water regularly to flush out toxins. Avoid deep fried snacks.Washing the face a couple of times a day helps but for added cleanliness try a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol before bed. Not only does alcohol help dry the skin of oil but it also kills bacteria-causing germs. And since bacteria is at the heart of acne and blemishes it’s important to keep skin free of it’s dangers.

.Consider a product containing tea tree oil at a 10% to 15% strength; it can be an effective alternative to benzoyl peroxide. Wiped on twice a day, this solution is antibacterial and can help to dry out active lesions. There are many cheap and effective home remedies for acne. Tomato slices, turmeric, papaya juices and home made packs will treat existing pimples and prevent further problems.

.Use only “oil-free” cosmetics. They are usually labeled “noncomedogenic” or “nonacnegenic.” Be sure to wash off cosmetics with soap and water every night before going to bed. And avoid cosmetics altogether if you have severe acne.

.Try a daily chamomile tea rinse. Make a strong chamomile tea, allow it to cool, and wipe the liquid over your face each morning. It makes an effective daily rinse because it both tones and cleanses. Take in consideration that the treatment may give you in the beginning some headaches and if you have an oily skin, you will feel it dry.

Tomatoes work wonders for oily skin as well. After mashing a ripe tomato drain the juice on paper towels for a few minutes. Now take the tomato pieces and pat them onto the face, while lying back, and leave for fifteen to twenty minutes. Rinse with warm water. Do this treatment once daily, preferably in the morning.

.Avoid tight-fitting nonabsorbent clothes, especially exercise outfits and sweatbands, which tend to trigger acne. If you can’t avoid them, at least change out of them as soon as you can.

In a recent study by Jennifer Gan-Wong, M.D. a green tea cream was trailed against a 4% benzoyl peroxide solution on people suffering with moderate to severe acne. The results from this research study showed that green tea was just as good in treating acne as the benzoyl peroxide.

But benzoyl peroxide dries out skin causing itching or allergic reactions. Unlike green tea that has the added advantages of natural anti-bacterial properties and antioxidants, particularly epigallocatechin gallate which is 200 times more powerful than vitamin E at fighting free radicals.
