Adult Acne Causes and Treatments to help Clear your Skin

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Adult acne is something that affects more women than men, but definitely can strike anyone at anytime during the twenties, thirties, and forties. Some people who develop more severe cases of adult acne end up with the same depression and anxiety that teenagers experience through adolecense.

The cause of adult acne is not known for sure in all cases, but many of the cases can be seen as caused by hormonal fluctuations. This can be especially true in women who suffer from adult acne. The good news is that there are several options to help clear adult acne, and are available without a visit to the dermatologist.

Many people can find plenty of over the counter products to choose from by simply visiting a local drugstore. The hard part is knowing which one will actually work to clear adult acne without giving you any other skin problems though. You also need to think about how many products you want to risk spending money on if it isn’t a sure thing that they will really work. As with any skin products, you should know what type of skin you have before purchasing a product.

You won’t want to buy a product that is made specifically for oily skin if you have drier skin and vice versa. You can research certain products before buying them as well. If you have access to the internet, you may be able to find reviews by other consumers who have had or have not had luck with a particular product. Otherwise you may find yourself with a ton of products that don’t even come close to being able to clear adult acne.

One product that stands out as being very effective to clear adult acne is anything that has a good percentage of benzoyl peroxide. This is usually the main ingredient in any effective acne treatment products that you can buy over the counter, and has been known to be safe for your skin.

Whether you choose a spot treatment, a whole facial wash, or a weekly mask, you will most likely have the best luck with a product that contains this ingredient. If the problem lies from an internal cause, then you may want to try an over the counter product while getting checked through blood work for your hormone levels as well. Those are usually in very serious cases where any over the counter topical product will not clear adult acne properly.

Best Acne Skin Care Product

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Anyone who hasn’t seen me for any length of time usually has only one thing to say, “Boy does your skin ever look good”, how did you get rid of that acne? And from those also suffering from acne skin problems, the next question nearly 100% of the time is “what is you secret?” Or “what is the best skin care product?” You see, I suffered from acne most of my teenage life and quite a few years into my adulthood. Therefore, anyone who had ever seen me always remembered the zits which covered majority of my face. However, thankfully over the years skin care products have improved significantly and helped me get rid of my hideous appearance.

While I have my favorite skin care products, it is not accurate to tell someone that this skin care product is the best and it will work for them. I know this all too well. I tried at least fifteen different products on the market before finding the one that really helped my skin look and feel attractive. The reason for this is not that these other products or acne treatments were bad; it’s just that they didn’t seem to agree with my particular skin type, oily some days while extremely dry others. It was almost as if my skin had a brain of its own and its sole purpose was to make me miserable. It succeeded for a lot of years in doing so.

My journey towards finding the best acne product started in my teens along with my mother at the local drug store. There were a huge number of products claiming to the best acne treatment lining the drug store shelf that it was nearly overwhelming to even pick one. My mother was a good sport; she read our names, descriptions and popular ingredients listed on the labels of number of different acne treatments. The most common ingredients being mentioned were Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid. Mom suggested trying a cream containing Benzoyl Peroxide as she recognized this term from hearing it from her friend at work. So we bought it.

I tried it for several weeks with some improvements but nothing to really brag about. So over the next few years I experimented with different forms and strengths of Benzoyl Peroxide, gels, creams, liquids, etc you name it, I tried it (2%, 5% etc, etc). While the results weren’t exactly what I had hoped for, his got me through my teen years and college years with a half decent complexion.

It wasn’t until after my college years that I tried acne treatment products comprised of combination of herbal supplement capsule and cream containing Salicylic Acid that I truly found the best skin care product for me. I found this combination approach to the best. The salicylic acid was gently on my skin and really gave it that radiant glowing look. The herbal supplements which were also part of the regimen worked hard to keep my insides balanced and regulated.

For me, the best skin care product, especially when it comes to treating acne is Clearpores which consists of herbal supplements and salicylic acid.

Acne Skin Care Products – an Overview

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

It is indeed a major inconvenience to suffer from acne – and sometimes people are willing to pay for expensive skin care items and surgical treatments just to make the acne go away. But what about those of us who suffer just as much, and don’t have the money or the superstar lifestyle to sustain that sort of acne relief? You don’t always have to buy signature skin care brands to experience relief from acne – there are some acne skin care products available over the counter that fall well within a reasonable budget.

A lot of acne skin care products use all-natural components so as not to further irritate the skin. Among these components is aloe – an extract of the “wonder plant,” so called for its myriad healing properties. But this doesn’t mean any lotion with aloe can help relieve acne! Make it a point to use only facial lotions on acne-prone areas. Aloe is also often used in tandem with other chemicals, which may irritate facial skin especially. Pure aloe gels are usually best.

Salicylic acid is another popular anti-acne chemical. A small amount of salicylic acid would help in the elimination of a lot of skin problems, including acne. A skin care solution that is made up of diluted salicylic acid – around two percent of acid only – ought to do wonders for your skin. Benzoyl peroxide is a vital component in some signature skin care products, such as Clearasil, Benzac and Benoxyl. What it does is to unplug pores, releasing the toxins that cause acne.

Alphahydroxy acid does its work by drying up blemishes and causing the top layer of the skin to peel. The peeling may seem awkward if you are especially conscious about your looks, but it’s still an effective cleanser and exfoliant. Many brands of sunscreens, eye creams, cleansers and moisturizers use alphahydroxy acid.

Of course, when using these acne skin care products, you should speed up the healing process by keeping a steady eye on your habits and diet. Avoid fatty foods, processed foods, nuts, and foods packed with iodine. Opt for sea salt rather than the more commercially available iodized salt. Remember to get plenty of sleep and to reduce your caffeine intake. You might be surprised how well a healthy diet and enough regular sleeping hours can do wonders for your skin – even without the use of over-the-counter remedies!

Choosing the Appropriate Acne Treatments for Oily Skin

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Acne treatments for people with oily skin are a bit more complicated than those used on other types of skin. From diet to vitamin supplements to daily habits, oily skin needs constant care since it is the type most prone to acne and other skin problems.

Acne treatments for oily or greasy skin should start with one’s diet. Although food has never been proven to cause acne on its own, certain meals do aggravate pimples if you already have them. If you have greasy skin, the best thing to do is to increase your intake of vegetables and fresh fruits and avoid junk and processed foods. Drinking lots of water should also be part of your agenda. Aside from helping keep your skin clear, a diet rich in fresh fruits can help your metabolism better and improve bowel movements that can flush out unwanted elements in your body.

Hygiene is also an important aspect of preventing acne in oily skin types. Washing your skin at least twice a day is a must to get rid of the dirt and the excess oil that clog your pores and cause zits to appear. In choosing a facial wash, it is better to use products that will not increase your skin’s oil production. Water-based or oil-free facial washes should be used, or soaps with a balanced pH, followed by astringent to get the deep-cleansing effect.

Contrary to most people’s belief, oily or shiny skin still needs constant moisturizing. No matter what type of skin we have, moisturizers are skin-care products that we should never do without, particularly when we hit the age of 25 and above. Moisturizing products designed particularly for greasy skin are available over the counter or you can consult your dermatologist for the best one. When it comes to supplements, vitamin A has been found to be good for shiny skin since it helps control the production of oil. A daily dose of this supplement can help balance the tone of oily skin and help in keeping it clear.

If you’re not much into bottles and tubes and would prefer a more natural approach, home-based acne solutions are also available for shiny skin. The usual remedies are facial packs and pastes. These facial packs can be used before going to bed, right after cleaning your face. The most common ingredients for oily skin packs are tomatoes or egg whites. Milk or oatmeal mixed with lemon juice is another favorite among people with greasy skin. These materials are said to be effective in controlling the skin’s oil production, while providing the much needed moisture to keep the skin hydrated.

Acne treatments for oily or shiny skin do not entail mere formulas applied to your face; they should also include proper eating habits, a healthy lifestyle and proper hygiene. Maintaining an oily skin is more challenging compared with other skin types. If you want to be acne-free, you’d better be ready to put in the work and follow the steps mentioned above.
